Wow!
Just this week I was brainstorming with a client about how to best convert a legacy website. During our discussion I was doing a paper sketch on what the site might look like, how it would integrate and what the structure might feel like. This is a pretty standard process but after about the 5th revision, I put my pen down in frustration…I kept having to recreate the baseline structure to move things around.
Creating sketches or mockups of a product can be unnecessarily time consuming. Over the years I’ve used numerous tools to creat mockups; HTML, Powerpoint, Photoshop, Mindmaps, Visio, paper, whiteboards etc. Getting something in front of the team fast is crucial at the first stages of any project because it can mean the difference between getting stuck mulling over details instead of building the idea. After several sessions of documenting the ins and out, the real work begins, it’s usually at that point that you REALLY start to figure out the hurdles.
Balsamiq aims to solve for creating mockups fast and as a result gets you closer to the “live” product with less hassle. It’s not that FAST is better but FAST helps uncover challenges earlier in the process which helps make for a better end result.
Thanks to Giacomo ‘Peldi’ Guilizzoni for a great tool!
