When I saw that Google announced they put automatic message translation between 41 languages into Gmail Labs, I had to a good laugh. My Mandrin Chinese isn’t what it used to be and while I’m still “conversational” I find myself scrambling to translate a few phrases on a weekly basis. Typically, I’ll do a quick copy+paste+translate using the Google Translate gadget. The translator is now fed directly into Gmail and is just one click away. Granted, on a few occassions the translations are a little off but it sure beats the alternative.
Google adding the translator is yet another example of why we’re excited about Google Apps and the direction they’re heading. By leveraging web-based tools we’re able to get a lot for our money without having the added overhead cost that so often comes with software and hardware.
Thanks Google Translate team and Product Manager Jeff Chin for keeping us in the loop!
